Film Lab

The KHAS Film Lab is a monthly on-camera program built around one goal: preparing and filming a focused demo scene. During the first three Mondays, actors explore the scene, discuss character choices, wardrobe, tone, and visual style, and rehearse with camera awareness in mind. On the final Monday, actors head to CVT for Film Day, where the scene is filmed with a more professional setup designed to support strong, usable footage. Actors may join the full series for guided preparation and a Film Day discount, or sign up for Film Day only and rehearse independently, with optional private coaching available on Zoom or in person.

This program is designed to take actors through the full process of preparing a scene and bringing it to life on camera — ending with a filmed demo scene you can use for your reel. Check out this video from the class!

Time: Mondays 7:00–9:00 PM

Weeks 1–3: Kim Houston Acting Studios (Rehearsal + Prep)

Week 4: CVT (On-Set Film Day)

— HOW IT WORKS —

WEEKS 1-3  (At Kim Houston Acting Studios)

This is where the work happens.

You will:

• be assigned or choose a scene
• break down character and beats
• explore tone, pacing, and choices
• work on blocking and movement
• discuss wardrobe and visual style
• rehearse with camera awareness

These sessions are designed to make sure you feel prepared and confident going into filming.

WEEK 4 (Film Day at CVT)

On the final Monday, we move to set.

You will:

• film your scene with direction
• work with camera and lighting setup
• gain real on-set experience
• capture footage for your reel

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE

Some actors join the full series for preparation, while others may join for Film Day only and prepare independently. Optional private coaching is also available (in person or via Zoom) if you’d like additional support before filming.

When you sign up for a series, you are expected to attend weekly so you can fully benefit from the process.

If you need to miss a class:

• Please give at least 24 hours notice
• We can reschedule you into another series if space allows
• Class credits are valid for 3 months from purchase
• Missed classes without notice will result in a forfeited class credit.
