A Monthly VoiceOver Training & Audition Club for Adults, Teens & Kids

The KHAS VoiceOver Club is getting a fresh new format!

Created by Kim Houston Acting Studios, the KHAS VoiceOver Club gives actors an ongoing opportunity to practice the skills that matter most in VoiceOver: interpreting a breakdown, making strong acting choices, recording from home, meeting deadlines, taking direction and becoming more confident behind the microphone.

Rather than taking one workshop and then wondering what to practice next, Club members receive new VoiceOver opportunities throughout the month designed to keep them auditioning, learning and improving.

HOW THE CLUB WORKS

Each week, members receive a new KHAS VoiceOver Audition Challenge.

Challenges rotate through different areas of the VoiceOver industry, including:

• Commercials
• Animation & character work
• Narration
• Promo
• TV & digital content
• Kids & teen VoiceOver
• Specialty and surprise casting challenges

Each assignment is presented much like a real VoiceOver audition, with a casting breakdown, script, creative direction, submission instructions and deadline.

Members record their auditions from home and submit them as an MP3 by the deadline.

The goal isn’t simply to read a script. It’s to learn how to AUDITION for VoiceOver.

REAL-WORLD CASTING CHALLENGES

Throughout the month, members may receive special casting-style challenges designed to recreate the experience of an actual VoiceOver audition.

• Can you interpret the breakdown?
• Can you make a strong choice without being over-directed?
• Can you follow submission instructions?
• Can you deliver your audition on time?

Some challenges may include callbacks and redirects, giving members the opportunity to experience what happens when casting wants to hear another take.

MONTHLY LIVE VO LAB

Each month, members come together for a LIVE KHAS VoiceOver Lab.

Selected auditions from that month’s challenges are reviewed and discussed.

Actors may receive a redirect and perform the material again so they can immediately hear and experience how a different acting choice changes the read.

Live sessions may focus on topics such as:

• Making your read more conversational
• Getting rid of the “announcer” sound
• Creating believable characters
• Understanding casting direction
• Making stronger choices
• Taking a redirect
• Improving home auditions
• What makes casting continue listening

Throughout the year, KHAS may also welcome special guest VoiceOver coaches, working actors, agents and other industry professionals, based on availability.

KIDS & TEENS ARE WELCOME!

VoiceOver can be a wonderful way for young actors to develop their acting skills, imagination, confidence and ability to take direction.

Kids and teens receive age-appropriate material while participating in the same weekly audition process.

Young actors can explore:

• Commercial VoiceOver
• Animation
• Character voices
• Disney/Nick-style material
• Natural conversational reads
• Acting through voice alone

You don’t need to have a “funny voice” to be a VoiceOver actor. VoiceOver is acting.

THE KHAS VOICE BANK

KHAS is also beginning to develop a Voice Bank of kids, teens and adults interested in VoiceOver.

Select members may have opportunities to record sample material in the studio so KHAS can become familiar with their natural voice, range and strengths.

These recordings are intended as training and voice samples and are not represented as professionally produced VoiceOver demos.

For actors ready to take the next step, KHAS can recommend additional VoiceOver training, professional studio work and demo preparation.
