At Kim Houston Acting Studios, our Film Lab is much more than a demo reel shoot—it’s a complete actor training experience designed to prepare you for the demands of television and film.

Rather than simply filming a scene, you’ll work through the same process professional actors experience before stepping onto a professional set. You’ll develop your character, rehearse with direction, strengthen your on-camera technique, and gain the confidence needed to deliver your best performance.

How the Monthly Film Lab Works

Every Monday • 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Our monthly Film Lab follows the same progression as a professional production.

Weeks 1–3

Film Lab Training

During the first three Mondays you’ll work on:

• Scene Analysis

• Character Development

• On-Camera Technique

• Blocking & Continuity

• Working with Scene Partners

• Taking Direction

• Rehearsal & Performance Preparation

Each class builds toward your professional filming experience.

Week 4

Professional Film Day

The last Monday of every month is our Professional Film Day.

Actors scheduled to film will work on set with the director and production crew to professionally capture their demo reel scene.

Actors who are enrolled in Film Lab but are not filming that month attend as part of their final class for an invaluable On-Set Observation Experience.

Students observe:

• Professional set etiquette

• Camera placement and movement

• Working with directors

• Production workflow

• Real filming techniques

Watching a live professional production is one of the best ways to understand how a working set operates and prepares actors for future filming opportunities.
